Lionel Messi recently signed for PSG, and he accepted to play for the French club for a huge fee, but he also accepted to wear the number 30 at the club, but why did Lionel Messi choose the number 30 instead of the number 10 which he wore for many years at Barcelona or the number 19 which he wore for sometime.
Lionel Messi refused to take the number 10 which currently belongs to his friend, Neymar Junior, but he also refused to wear the number 19 which belongs to Spanish player, Pablo Sarabia.
Lionel Messi chose to wear the number 30 at PSG for the same reason he wore the number years ago when he played for Barcelona.
When Lionel Messi arrived at Barcelona, he was very shy that he didn’t talk to anybody. Gerard Pique even said “we thought he was mute” (Source: El Pais, 2011), but Ronaldinho and Deco told Messi to sit next to them in the locker room, but Lionel Messi said “at the start, i was ashamed. I said to them: ‘no, it’s okay, I’m happy in my corner, but they (Ronaldinho and Deco) basically forced me to sit with them” (Source: FC Barcelona TV, 2015).
Lionel Messi wore the number 30 because Ronaldinho wore the number 10 at Barcelona and Deco wore the number 20 at Barcelona, so if you plus number 10 and 20 the answer will be 30.
Ronaldinho congratulated Lionel Messi on his arrival at PSG by saying “it’s such a pleasure to have played in these two big clubs and to today see my friend play in this jersey. I hope you’re really happy there Leo” (Source: Ronaldinho Official Twitter, 2021).
Did you know that when Lionel Messi first wore the number 30 at Barcelona, he played against Espanyol Barcelona where his current coach, M. Pochettino was a player?
