Infertility is fairly common and affects many men worldwide. The term ‘healthy sperms’ indicates that your sperms are abundant in number, they have a normal shape and structure, and they have their motility intact.
If any one of these qualities in majority of your sperms is missing, they are unhealthy. If you have unhealthy sperms you could be impotent and infertile and your sex drive could be lowered.
So, in this article, I would be giving you a list of easy lifestyle tips that could improve your chances of becoming a father.
1) Make sure you lead a healthy lifestyle. Unhealthy lifestyle practices impair your overall health, including fertility.
2) Ensure to maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight, obese or underweight can affect a man’s fertility. You have a greater chance of being a father and having a healthy baby if you have a healthy weight.
3) Avoid placing laptops on your laps, tight underwears, hot showers, hot bathtubs and Jacuzzis. This is because sperms are heat-sensitive. Increased exposure to heat may raise the temperature of the scrotum and lead to reduced sperm count and fewer moving sperms.
4) Also, avoid placing your phones in your pocket. Exposure to radiation from carrying a mobile phone in the trouser pocket can negatively impact sperm quality, thereby decreasing sperm motility, sperm counts, viability and morphology.
5) Avoid heavy alcohol consumption, as it may reduce testosterone levels and impair semen quality.
6) Avoid masturbation as it increases the chances of having a low sperm count.
7) Increase your intake of folate or folic acid. Folate is the natural form of vitamin B9 in food, while folic acid is a synthetic form, which our body uses to make new cells that comprise our skin, hair, and nails. Studies indicate that a low intake of folate may impair semen quality. Foods like spinach, avocado, beans, asparagus, citrus fruits, eggs, walnuts.
8) Also, take in a lot of zinc supplements to help your body fight off some antibodies that might prevent the production of adequate sperm. Foods like cashew, beans, almonds, eggs and milk are good sources of zinc.
