Professional footballers often pay attention to their haircuts and general appearance because it gives them an identity which the public will associate with them. Apart from the money which them make from playing football, professional footballers are also celebrities who work as models, brand ambassadors, movie actors and headline figures for several franchises.
Every player has several reasons why they have to look their best at all times, which is why they always style their hair and make sure they visit the barbershop before featuring in matches.
However, some players tend to “overdo” the styling thing sometimes which has led to some pretty horrible hairstyles in years past. Some footballers have been brave enough to try out unique hairstyles and even went on using it to play matches, even when some of them looked awful.
Here are 10 of the worst hairstyles by professional footballers which I have come across:
1.
Who can forget Neymar with his popular mohawk style, which he used a lot when he was still playing in the Brazilian league for Santos. Maybe no one was there to tell him but that hairstyle is awful and doesn’t look good on him. Thankfully, he has grown up since then and adopted another hairstyle now that he is at PSG.
2.
David Beckham is arguably of one the most handsome men in history to ever play the game of football. Apart from his football skills, he was popular for his good looks and had a habit of changing hairstyles from time to time. However, this blonde braids were a fail for me as it makes him look more like a female singer, rather than the handsome British man he is.
3.
Ivorian winger, Gervinho was a terror to Premier League defenses during his time at Arsenal. Gunners fans loved everything about the pacy forward with the only downside being his confusing hairstyle. Only Gervinho himself can explain what he was trying to achieve with this one. Horrible hairstyle!
4.
Rodrigo Palacios was popular for his unique hairstyle which I am sure no other footballer has been brave enough to replicate. The Inter Milan legend had a low cut with a strand of plaited hair at the back. It looks almost like a single-thread ponytail, or what else should we call it?
5.
Mario Balotelli will be remembered by English football fans for his popular “Why always me” celebration when Man City trashed United 6-1 at Old Trafford back in 2011. He was an arrogant player who was also versatile with his hairstyle. Apparently, his jersey wasn’t enough to accommodate his squad number, so he had to design it specially on top of his head. What was he thinking?
6.
Ivan Perisic clearly loves his country and we witnessed that love with this hairstyle here. The winger displayed great patriotism by painting the colors of the Croatia national flag on the side of his head.
7.
8.
I’d rather not comment on the two players above because they are barely known but still managed to have the most ridiculous hairstyles on this list.
9.
Brazilian Ronaldo has one of the funniest hairstyles in history. He had all of his hair shaved off but left a little portion of hair in front. Though it was funny, this hairstyle is now considered as one of the most iconic hairstyles in football history.
10.
From the very first day I set my eyes on Taribo West, I have always associate the Super Eagles legend with this hairstyle. It was ridiculous in as much as it was creative.
Which of these footballers have the worst hairstyle on this list?
