Manchester United’s trophy drought has entered a fifth season. It has been over four years since they lifted a trophy, with their last victory coming in the Mourinho era.
The Portuguese had led the Red Devils to victory in the Community Shield, Carling Cup and Europa League but was sacked shortly after that. Ole Solskjaer took over but has been unable to show any trophy for all the talks of progress which we’re been led to believe.
In Solskjaer’s time as the gaffer he has “bottled” a lot of semi finals while also losing season’s Europa League Final to Super Cup losers Villarreal.
These has put a big dent on his portfolio as a top manager as well as rubbishing talks that the expensively assembled United team is a title contending team.
Notwithstanding, Ole Solskjaer was recently handed a contract until 2024. According to United’s hierarchy, they trusted the process and “progress” that has been witnessed. They also had mammoth faith that the Norwegian was the right man for the job.
In a show of faith, the hierarchy backed him enormously in the transfer market. Youngster striker, Jadon Sancho and veteran defender Raphael Varane has been added to the squad to boost their credentials as a title contender. Even veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton was added to a bench that includes David De gea and Dean Henderson.
The talent at his disposal is undeniable. The question is whether he will fall short once again.
