*NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF IMO STATE STUDENTS* _Ìgwè Bụ Ike_ Our Ref: NAISS-07/N-SEC/0007 Friday August 6, 2021 *➖➖ FED POLY NEKEDE: ACTION!! ➖➖* The students of the *Federal Polytechnic, Nekede* were *thrown into disarray* when a *circular bearing the new schedule of school fees payment was released yesterday.* The schedule had the total tuition for each of the programs increased across levels. *The President-elect Comr. Umukoro Marvis Udechukwu* within a few hours received a *mammoth of complaints and outcry* over the hike in tuition fees as described by the students. He quickly swung into action to *determine the severity of the impact of the increased fees on the lives of the students.* *EFFECT:* Collating complaints received from different bodies of the NAISS government, it was discovered that *many students were sponsoring themselves in the payment of fees,* coupled with the recession facing the country generally which had affected the *cost of basic living.* As such the increase in school fees was a *heavy blow to dick, tom and Harry. It was not a time for words.* *ACTION:* The President-Elect Comr. Umukoro Marvis Udechukwu and his executives, led by the *incumbent president H.E Comr. Anyaoha Tochi and the incumbent speaker Rt. Hon Emmanuel Dominion* held a meeting with the *Rector of the school, Dr. Michael Arimanwa to vividly express the concerns of Imo State Students in the institution in very clear speeches as was necessary.* The Registrar, Dean of Student Affairs, SUG president and his executives and other student leaders were present. *Comr Isinwa Destiny, a one time NAISS President and BOT chairman was also present.* *The VP-internal elect – Comr. Paul Miracle E., the Ézè ndị Ézè elect – HRH. Comr. Orji Ifeanyi E., The Secretary General-elect Comr. Okehielam Clinton and the Director of Welfare Comr. Amuzienwa ThankGod C. accompanied the president elect.* *RESPONSE:* The Rector acknowledged the complaints laid by the association, the effect of the dwindling economy on the country at large and further went to *explain the reason for the increase in the fees, citing expenses, charges and maintenance costs to keep the school running fit and in good condition.* As decision regarding fee payment are not taken by him alone, *he assured the association and student leaders that their voices has been heard clearly, and definite action will be taken to alleviate burden on the students regarding the school fees.* *He requested for a 72 hour time frame to respond to the plight of the students.* *_Recall that in the manifesto by the President elect, Comr. Umukoro Marvis Udechukwu, Better days ahead was a heading in bold.
