The action of 17 Southern governors on 11 May 2021 reminds me of an Igbo adage that says “An elder does not stay at home and watch a tethered goat deliver”. Although these Southern governors were heavily criticized by Nigerians who are mainly from the North, they did not however go back in their decision as they banned open grazing in all parts of Southern Nigeria.

As it stands, the banning of open grazing seems to be producing a good result as we now hardly hear stories of herders and farmers clashes. The farmers are beginning to visit their farms knowing fully well that the deadly herders have been chased out of the forests and the remaining ones are restricted to an area of land or a privately owned ranch to do their private business.

In our today’s political report, we will be looking at a bizarre incident that happened in Abuja where cows were seen walking freely on a road disrupting the free flow of traffic in broad daylight.

Here is a screenshot;

According to a report made public by Sahara Reporters, cows have taken over Arab Road In Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja. The said cows were seen in their numbers moving freely disrupting the free flow of traffic today.

After these pictures went viral, many Nigerians took turns to react to them. The majority argued that this is indeed bad. They criticized the federal government for allowing such to happen in Abuja. There are however some persons who argued that there is nothing wrong with cows moving freely on a major road.

After listening to various arguments, we have decided to put out a well-informed opinion. The taking over of Abuja roads by cows shows that the action of the 17 Southern Governors in banning open grazing is indeed a right move. This bizarre occurrence clearly shows that banning open grazing is the right way to go for any serious country.

The decision of the Southern governors clearly shows that they saw the future ahead of time. I think they deserve to be praised for coming out to stop this menace.

I think that the federal government needs to move swiftly and ban open grazing in major parts of Abuja. They need to encourage herders to buy lands and breed their cows privately.

What is your view?.

• Do you think that this is an eyesore?.

• Do you think that they should be stopped?.
