At some point most people will enter a dry spell in their s*x lives, where they go quite some time without having s*x. If you find yourself in a period of abstinence, you might be wondering how it can affect your health. If that break goes on long enough, though, it can have an effect on your body and some parts of your life. But it’s important to remember that there’s no “right” amount for everyone. What’s key is that you find what works best for you.

Here are 4 side effect on not having intercouse

Immune system

Regular intercouse improves the immune system and prepares the body to fight off illness by releasing endorphins. This means that having intercouse less often might result in more frequent illnesses, like the cold or flu. A study reported that saliva samples of college students who had regular intercouse were found to have a higher concentration of certain antibodies called immunoglobulin A, which fight the common cold.

Higher risk of heart disease

A scientific study has found having intercouse just twice a week halves a man’s chances of getting clogged arteries compared to those who indulge less than once a month. And recent research published in the Journal of S*xual Medicine found having intercouse slashed men’s levels of homocysteine, a harmful chemical which can trigger cardiac problems. It is believed men getting regular s*x often have better circulation and healthier blood vessels.

Your prostate may be less healthy

The reasons aren’t exactly clear, but in at least one study, men who are relieved less than seven times a month were more likely to get prostate cancer compared to those who did it at least 21 times a month. But unprotected anonymous intercourse and multiple partners can also raise your chances for the disease, so when you do get intimate, take care.

Period pain

Some people find s*x to be an excellent remedy for menstrual cramps. The increase in endorphins caused by intercourse as well as the uterine contractions that occur with orgasm can both help alleviate cramps. You don’t have to have s*x to reap these benefits self gratification can have the same effect.
