Tuchel’s men show determination and passion in their performance from the kick-off and they score the first goal through Hakim Ziyech (assisted by Kai Havertz) in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, Chelsea goalscorer was replaced by Christian Pulisic before the end of the first period.

Villareal got their equalizer through Gerard Moreno in the second half and the game progressed to Extra-time and Penalty shootout. Kepa who replaced Mendy in a tactical substitution made by Tuchel saved two penalties and Chelsea won by 6-5.

However, here are the five things noticed in Chelsea’s victory over Villarreal tonight;

2. Timo Werner Needs Big improvement

The German striker was a shadow of his former self on the pitch as he often loses the ball to the opposition.

The 25-year-old had 17 touches, lost possessions six times, completed zero dribbles, and had only a shot on target before he was replaced by Mason Mount in the second half.

Nevertheless, the Premier League starts by the weekend and he shouldn’t take that kind of form to the competition.

3. Callum Hudson-Odio Needs to Improve On The Defensive Side of His Game

The 20-year-old lost some possessions and was often caught out at the right wing-back role, although it is not his preferred position.

Callum needs to improve that side of his game if he will challenging Reece James for the starting spot next season. A reminder that he failed to defend Alberto Moreno’s shocking strike at the crossbar before the stroke of halftime.

4. Trevor Chalobah Prove a point to Tuchel

The 22-year-old played the whole match as a right center-back and he had a great game as he kept two tackles, made five interceptions, and five clearances which were vital to Chelsea’s victory.

Tuchel would not be able to ignore his performance as it will prompt him to consider him next season.

5. Tuchel’s Gamble On Tactical Substitution Paid Off

The German displayed another side of his tactical plan in Belfast as he made some changes that were instrumental to Chelsea’s triumph.

In the second 45 minutes, football fans moaned when Tuchel replaced Kante with Jorginho among other vital substitutions the gaffer made.

Towards the end of the second extra time, Tuchel’s decision to replace Edouard Mendy with Kepa Arrizabalaga paid off as the introduced goalkeeper made two huge saves in the penalty shootout to win Chelsea the trophy.
