The story of Jacob wrestling with God (Genesis 32:22–32) is one of my favorite stories in the Bible.In the story, Jacob is alone and wrestles through the night with a “man.” As the wrestling match comes to an end, Jacob insists that he will not release his opponent until the opponent blesses him. It is here, in the blessing, that we learn that the “man” is in fact God. God does bless Jacob, but Jacob still leaves the encounter limping away. I’ve always loved Jacob’s perseverance in this story. He has an opportunity to stop wrestling, to walk away, but he insists, “I will not let you go, until you bless me.”
This morning, I’m urging you to not let go no matter what you’re facing. Hold firmly unto God and ask him to bless you.
Say these prayers with me;
Lord, I’ve heard the story of Jacob as he wrestled with the angel, how he asked for the angel to bless him. I have also come to you for blessing. Please Lord, bless me abundantly in Jesus name.
Help me to wrestle with the conflicting values, desires and pressures that confronts me daily so that i can unclench my hands and open myself to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.
Ancient of days, hear the cry of my heart today and show me your mighty power. As I’ve come to you this day, do not let me leave empty handed. Let me experience a touch that will lead to change of status and situations that needs to change in my life. Guide my foot step to be at the right place at the right time so your name can be glorified in Jesus name.
Mighty father, I want you to renew my strength and hope in you especially where I have lost my strength and become weak and where my hope has gone down. Surprise me with good news today, and meet me in the midst of my failure. Open my eyes to see you and feel your presence especially at times when I feel forgotten and all alone.
Thank you Jesus for answered prayers in Jesus name.
AMEN.
