Since the turn of the year, the activities of the Fulani herdsmen constituted a nuisance in the Southern part of Nigeria. The 17 governors of the Southern states in Nigeria under the umbrella of the Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF), decided to take effective measures against the incessant clashes between farmers and herdsmen, so on the 11th of May, 2021, they announced the ban of open grazing in all Southern states of the Federation.[Image Was Used Solely For Illustrative Purpose] [Image Credit: Google]
The Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF) met for a second time in Lagos State on the 5th of July, 2021. The Southern Governors ordered each state to pass the anti-grazing law before or on the 1st of September, 2021. Although the Southern Governors have received criticisms for the ban on open grazing in the South, they have consequently insisted that the decision to ban open grazing in the South is irreversible.[Image Credit: Google]
However, in a report by This Day on Thursday, 26th of August, 2021, the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma went against the agreement he had with other 16 Southern Governors. Speaking shortly after he met President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday, 25th of August, 2021, Governor Hope Uzodinma made it clear that there is no law prohibiting open grazing in Imo State.[Image Credit: Google]
Governor Hope Uzodinma explained that his government has made huge efforts to regulate open grazing, revealing that farmers and herdsmen in Imo State has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and have agreed to live peacefully.[Image Credit: Google]
Governor Hope Uzodinma’s U-turn on the ban on open grazing, may seem as betrayal to the Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF), as Governor Hope Uzodinma previously agreed to ban open grazing in Imo State. On the 19th of May, 2021, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele claimed God Almighty revealed to him, that there will be betrayal among the Southern Governors and the betrayal will hinder the effectiveness of the unanimous decision to ban open grazing in the 17 Southern states.[Image Credit: Google]
This has left me pondering if Governor Hope Uzodinma’s U-turn on open grazing ban, is a manifestation of Primate Elijah Ayodele’s prophecy in May, 2021. Though Primate Elijah Ayodele did not give names of Governors that will make a U-turn on open grazing ban, it seems that Governor Hope Uzodinma is the first to do so and other Governors may follow suit.
