The fire, which started around 1 pm, on Sunday, 17 October, was said to have lasted for some hours, almost completely razing down most of the shops and destroying properties worth millions
According to videos shared online, many of the traders were said to have gone to church when they were informed of the fire incident.
Very few traders especially those whose shops were located downstairs, were able to gather some of their goods because it was said that the fire started from the upper part of the buildings.
In the video, individuals could be seen struggling effortlessly to put out the fire, following disappointment from men of the fire service in the state.
Through individual effort, the traders were able to get a water tank so as to enable them to put out the fire. The cause of fire incidence is still unknown
An individual who claimed to be the driver of the water tanker when interviewed said he was called in by past 1 pm to render his service.
Unfortunately, efforts to put out the fire were not fruitful as a video showing the aftermath of the fire incident showed various shops razed down completely, with the fire spreading very fast. One of the traders who was also interviewed claimed that he was unable to save a pin from his shop, as his goods were totally razed down by the fire.
According to a report, the police mobilized men to the market and cordoned off the scene to avoid miscreants from stealing from the market.
